About Sloy

Sloy is a hydro power station at Inveruglas on Loch Lomond, in Argyll and Bute. It was commissioned in 1950.

Elexon registers its 4 balancing mechanism units at 172 MW in all, but DUKES 5.11, the government's list of power stations, gives it 152.5 MW, and that is the capacity this page uses (153 MW to the nearest MW). Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey records it every half hour for the chart.

Hydro stations run on rivers and reservoirs, most of them in the Scottish Highlands. How much they generate depends on the rain and on when the grid needs them.
