About Fasnakyle
Fasnakyle is a hydro power station near Cannich in the Highlands. It was commissioned in 1951.
Elexon registers its 4 balancing mechanism units at 78 MW in all, but DUKES 5.11, the government's list of power stations, gives it 69 MW, and that is the capacity this page uses. Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey records it every half hour for the chart.
Hydro stations run on rivers and reservoirs, most of them in the Scottish Highlands. How much they generate depends on the rain and on when the grid needs them.
