We’ve sweated the same deadlines, argued with the same Building Control officers, chased the same suppliers and watched the same budgets wobble. We’ve made the expensive mistakes already, so you don’t have to.
That changes everything about the advice you get. When a calculation fails, we don’t just email you the bad news and an invoice — we know what a spec change actually costs to build, so we point you at the fix that’s cheapest and most practical on a real site, not just the one that’s tidiest on paper.

When the software we wanted didn’t exist, we built it. What started as one calculator for our own jobs is now a troop of seven, free in your browser, with no sign-up and no spreadsheet wrestling. They are the same calculators we reach for on our own jobs — which is the real reason they are careful: if a number is wrong, it is our name on the report going to Building Control.

U-Monkey builds up any wall, roof or floor and gives you a live U-value, with Part L and Future Homes Standard checks and a condensation-risk screening. ΨMonkey models junction thermal bridging for psi values and fRsi. WaterMonkey runs Part G water efficiency with live PASS/FAIL. SoakMonkey sizes soakaways straight from your percolation test. NutrientMonkey works out nutrient budgets across every Natural England catchment.
And two for the bigger picture
GridMonkey shows where Britain’s electricity is coming from right now — the live generation mix as one big pie, with carbon intensity, demand and every interconnector flow, groupable by fuel, company, power station or wind farm. It is the fastest honest answer to “is the grid actually decarbonising?”, and a genuinely good thing to leave running on a second screen. TreeMonkey turns any quantity of CO₂ — or your own project’s figures — into things people can actually picture: trees, car miles, flights, homes. It is the quickest way we know to make a tonne of carbon mean something to a non-technical audience.
Which standard each tool follows
No black boxes. Every tool states its method on its own page, shows its working, and cites the clause it came from — so you (or your Building Control officer) can check it rather than take our word for it.

How we know the numbers are right
“Trust us” is not an engineering argument, so here is what actually sits behind the calculators:
- Every regulated constant carries its source. Surface resistances, air-layer values, lambda conventions, correction factors — each one is annotated in the engine with the standard and clause it comes from, not typed in from memory.
- Validated against published worked examples. U-Monkey reproduces the Scottish Government’s published Part 6 worked example (U = 0.30) and the published Pelsmakers et al. (2017) suspended-floor example (U = 0.570) exactly, as standing regression checks.
- ΨMonkey is benchmarked, not just coded. The solver is validated against the BS EN ISO 10211 Annex A benchmark, and every built-in junction is checked against published accredited construction details — landing within about ±0.02 W/m·K of the published figures across openings, floors, roofs, corners and party walls.
- Cross-checked independently. The condensation-risk model was rebuilt from the standard a second time, in a different language, and the two implementations agree to machine precision on every construction we tested it against.
- Re-audited when the guidance moves. The U-value engine was re-audited line by line against the full BR 443 (2019) text and BS EN ISO 6946 in July 2026 — which found and fixed several conventions that are genuinely easy to get wrong.
- Every paid report is verifiable. PDFs carry a printed report ID, and anyone — your client, your Building Control officer — can confirm it is genuine and unaltered at energycount.co.uk/verify.
And where they stop
Just as important: we tell you what the tools don’t do. U-Monkey’s condensation check is a screening assessment to BS EN ISO 13788 — the right first question for a normal build-up, and we say so plainly rather than dressing it up as a full transient hygrothermal analysis, which is a different exercise entirely. Where a build-up is unusual or historic and needs that deeper work, the tool tells you, and we will point you to someone who does it.
A calculator that knows its own limits is worth more than one that pretends it hasn’t got any.
