About Conon hydro scheme

Conon hydro scheme is a group of hydro stations west of Dingwall in the Highlands. Its five stations, Luichart, Grudie Bridge, Mossford, Orrin and Torr Achilty, were commissioned between 1950 and 1959. Its stations are traded as one unit, so their output shows here as one.

Its 95 MW of registered generating capacity is spread across one balancing mechanism unit. Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey records it every half hour for the chart.

Hydro stations run on rivers and reservoirs, most of them in the Scottish Highlands. How much they generate depends on the rain and on when the grid needs them.
