SoakMonkey implements BRE Digest 365 in full: it computes the soil infiltration rate from your three percolation test fills and adopts the lowest, runs the FSR design rainfall across eight storm durations, and sizes four construction types — filled granular pit, modular crate, perforated concrete ring and trench — with the worst case governing. What does the soakaway calculator actually work out?
It sizes a soakaway to BRE Digest 365 — the standard method Building Control and the Environment Agency expect. You enter your percolation (soakage) test results and the area draining to the soakaway, and it returns the dimensions needed to store and discharge a 1-in-10-year storm without flooding.
I've done a percolation test — what do I enter?
Your three test fills. SoakMonkey computes the soil infiltration rate (f) from each and adopts the lowest, exactly as BRE 365 requires (the most conservative, safest result). If you haven't tested yet, the tool explains the three-fill method so you can run it on site.
Which soakaway types does it handle?
Four: a filled granular pit, a modular crate/cellular system (95% void), a perforated concrete ring soakaway, and a trench. Each is solved across eight storm durations and the worst case governs — so the size it gives you is the one that actually passes.
Does it allow for climate change?
Yes — there's an optional climate-change uplift on the design rainfall (default 40%) on top of the 1-in-10-year storm, plus the BRE 365 half-drain-time check to confirm the soakaway empties within 24 hours.

Is the method reliable?
It implements BRE Digest 365 in full, with the FSR rainfall data built in, and has been checked against every worked example in the digest — Shropshire, Southampton, the concrete-ring and trench cases all reproduce exactly.
Can I get a refund if something goes wrong?
Yes — our refund practice is deliberately generous. An undelivered report refunds automatically, normally within the hour. If a report is faulty — it doesn't match your inputs or misapplies the stated methodology — we'll repair, replace or refund it under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and minor corrections can be re-exported free for 24 hours after purchase.
Will Building Control accept the report?
It follows BRE Digest 365 in full — percolation analysis, storm-duration table and the half-drain check — so a building control body can see the complete working.
