About Killin hydro scheme
Killin hydro scheme is a group of hydro stations in Glen Lyon and Glen Lochay, west of Killin. Its three stations, Lubreoch, Cashlie and Lochay, were commissioned in 1958 and 1959. Its stations are traded as one unit, so their output shows here as one.
Elexon registers its one balancing mechanism unit at 70 MW, but DUKES 5.11, the government's list of power stations, gives it 63 MW, and that is the capacity this page uses. Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey records it every half hour for the chart.
Hydro stations run on rivers and reservoirs, most of them in the Scottish Highlands. How much they generate depends on the rain and on when the grid needs them.
