About Nant
Nant is a hydro power station on Loch Awe, near Kilchrenan, in Argyll and Bute. It was commissioned in 1963.
Elexon registers its one balancing mechanism unit at 20 MW, but DUKES 5.11, the government's list of power stations, gives it 15 MW, and that is the capacity this page uses. Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey has recorded it every half hour since it was added to the list in October 2026, for the chart.
Hydro stations run on rivers and reservoirs, most of them in the Scottish Highlands. How much they generate depends on the rain and on when the grid needs them.
