About Finlarig

Finlarig is a hydro power station at Killin, at the west end of Loch Tay.

Elexon registers its one balancing mechanism unit at 86 MW, but DUKES 5.11, the government's list of power stations, gives it 16.5 MW, and that is the capacity this page uses (17 MW to the nearest MW). Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey records it every half hour for the chart.

Hydro stations run on rivers and reservoirs, most of them in the Scottish Highlands. How much they generate depends on the rain and on when the grid needs them.
