About Tye Lane Solar Farm

Tye Lane Solar Farm is a 50 MW solar farm at Bramford, near Ipswich, in Suffolk. It has been sending power to the grid since February 2026, by Elexon's metered figures, though the planning database (July 2026) still lists it as under construction. It shares its grid connection with a battery about 2 km away, beside Bramford substation (Tye Lane battery storage, live on its own page).

Its 50 MW of registered generating capacity is spread across one balancing mechanism unit. Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey records it every half hour for the chart.

Solar farms generate in daylight only: their output climbs from sunrise to a midday peak and falls to zero at dusk, higher on clear days and in summer. Few solar farms report their output one by one: Tye Lane Solar Farm is one of only eight in Great Britain that do, while the government lists 1,386 as operating. Why so few?
