About Sheaf
Sheaf is a battery storage site at Richborough, near Sandwich, in Kent. Sosteneo, the Generali-backed fund that owns Richborough Energy Park next door, agreed in November 2023 to buy it from Pacific Green, which developed it.
Its 249 MW of registered generating capacity is spread across one balancing mechanism unit. Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey records it every half hour for the chart.
Sheaf is being commissioned: its notice to the market (September 2026) expects commissioning to start in October 2026, with its capacity rising steadily to the full 249 MW in late November 2026. The league table lists it without a rank until it is running in full.
Battery stations charge when power is cheap and plentiful and discharge at the peaks, in seconds. Their output swings between charging and discharging through the day.
