About Richborough Energy Park

Richborough Energy Park is a battery storage site at Richborough, near Sandwich, in Kent. It began operating in December 2023. It shares the old Richborough power station site with Sheaf, a larger battery, and has been owned by Sosteneo's Energy Transition Fund since 2023.

Its 100 MW of registered generating capacity is spread across 2 balancing mechanism units. Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey has recorded it every half hour since it was added to the list in October 2026, for the chart.

Battery stations charge when power is cheap and plentiful and discharge at the peaks, in seconds. Their output swings between charging and discharging through the day.
