About Port of Tyne
Port of Tyne is a battery storage site at the Port of Tyne in South Shields. It began operating in July 2018.
Its 35 MW of registered generating capacity is spread across one balancing mechanism unit. Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey has recorded it every half hour since it was added to the list in October 2026, for the chart.
Battery stations charge when power is cheap and plentiful and discharge at the peaks, in seconds. Their output swings between charging and discharging through the day.
