About Cathkin

Cathkin is a battery storage site on the northern edge of East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire.

Its 50 MW of registered generating capacity is spread across one balancing mechanism unit. Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey records it every half hour for the chart.

Battery stations charge when power is cheap and plentiful and discharge at the peaks, in seconds. Their output swings between charging and discharging through the day.
