About Sofia

Sofia is an offshore wind farm off the coast of England, with 1,400 MW of generating capacity across 4 balancing mechanism units: Elexon registers them at 1,828 MW in all, but RWE gives it 1,400 MW, and that is the capacity this page uses. It is the largest of the 163 wind farms in GridMonkey's list of Britain's wind farms that report to Elexon, and is operated or mostly owned by RWE. Every half hour it tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification). That is the live figure above, and GridMonkey has recorded it every half hour since 17 October 2026 for the chart.

Sofia is still being commissioned: RWE finished installing its 100 turbines in June 2026 and its first power reached the grid on 18 September 2026, and RWE has said its commissioning is due in 2026. The league table lists it without a rank until it is running in full.

The government's Renewable Energy Planning Database lists Sofia as under construction in the July 2026 edition, with 100 turbines, up to 252 m tall to the blade tip.
