About Walney Extension
Walney Extension is an offshore wind farm off the coast of England, with 675 MW of registered generating capacity across 2 balancing mechanism units. It is the 13th largest of the 163 wind farms in GridMonkey's list of Britain's wind farms that report to Elexon, and is operated or mostly owned by Ørsted. Every half hour it tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification). That is the live figure above, and GridMonkey has recorded it every half hour since 17 October 2026 for the chart.
The government's Renewable Energy Planning Database lists Walney Extension as operational since September 2018, with turbines up to 222 m tall to the blade tip. Ørsted gives it 87 turbines: 40 of 8.25 MW and 47 of 7 MW.
