About Wilton

Wilton is a biomass power station at Wilton International on Teesside. Elexon registers the whole Wilton site as one biomass unit, so other generators on the site may be counted in it too.

Its 182 MW of registered generating capacity is spread across one balancing mechanism unit. Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey records it every half hour for the chart.

Biomass stations burn wood pellets or other plant material instead of fossil fuel. The two biggest, Drax and Lynemouth, were coal-fired until they were converted.
