About South Humber Bank
South Humber Bank is a combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) station near Grimsby in Lincolnshire. It was commissioned in 1997. Only its second phase runs: the first has been out of service since September 2026, and its notice to the market keeps it out until 2043.
Its 580 MW of registered generating capacity is spread across one balancing mechanism unit. Every half hour each unit tells the grid how much it will generate (its physical notification): that is the live figure above, and GridMonkey records it every half hour for the chart.
Gas stations follow demand: they ramp up when the wind drops or the evening peak arrives, and back off when there is plenty of wind and sun. Most are combined-cycle (CCGT); a few open-cycle turbines (OCGT) start fast to cover peaks.
