SAP Calculations - for newly converted dwellings & Barn Conversions (Part L1B)

SAP Calculations show compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations. “SAP Calcs” are required by Building Control at the design stage of a new dwelling to show how the building will comply with Part L. Once built, the dwelling requires a new set of SAP calcs to show that what is built complies with Part L. At this stage we produce the as-built SAP calculations & provide the EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) based on the as-built spec.

SAP calculations are produced by interpreting & inputting dwelling data (areas, volumes, u-values, heating/cooling systems, renewables, etc) into software to show how the dwelling compares to a ‘notional’ building. The dwelling ‘passes’ when the CO₂ emissions (DER) and building fabric (DFEE) are better than the notional building.

How does it work?

We undertake SAP calculations from existing and proposed plans, and a detailed specification for construction and services. The assessment is carried out from our offices so there is no need to visit site or carry out any surveys.

There are several ways to demonstrate compliance. We work closely with our clients to make things as easy and pain free as possible.

The assessment is conducted over two stages – DESIGN: We ensure that the proposed design meets the L1b requirements, and AS-BUILT: where we issue the final SAP reports and EPC for any new dwellings.

As part of the process, we ensure that both the new and existing elements of the building are up to standard, identifying how the existing elements (walls, floors and roofs) could be upgraded as well as how new elements such as heating, glazing and insulation should be incorporated.

We work with you throughout the build process, and are always on call to provide as much guidance and advice as you need.
